For the less activity minded there are a host of things to do. A must are visits to local sites in the area, including Annecy which is extremely popular with its magnificent old town criss-crossed by canals. About an hour away is the medieval village of Yvoire, situated on Lac Leman. This site can be combined with a visit to the lovely lakeside resort of Evian and the Chateau de Ripaille. Just on the other side of Annecy is the spectacular Gorge de Fier, where the snow melting into the river Fier has carved a deep passage into the limestone rocks.
