The Skiing

skiing holidays in La Clusaz         Snowboarding holidays in La Clusaz

La Clusaz, sitting at 1100 metres, has lifts starting at three sites in the village. The snow record is excellent at all levels, due to the extensive coverage of snow cannons and the particular climactic conditions of the Aravis mountain range.

There are five interlinked ski areas, each with pistes suitable for all standards. There are also acres of off-piste possibilies for the better skier. In total there are 140 kms of prepared downhill runs, served by 54 lifts. For cross country lovers there are 70 kms of cross country trails.

If you chose the Aravis lift pass, for a small supplement you can ski in the neighbouring resort of Grand Bornand. Here the 75 kms of piste, suitable for all skiers, are compactly arranged around a single mountain.

In both resorts, there are extensive and accessable off piste areas and kms of cross country trails. Mountain restaurants are numerous and very competitively priced. The lift systems are constantly being improved and are well situated, making queues non existent or relatively short, even in high season.

Both La Clusaz and Grand Bornand have made extensive investment in snow making facilities, prolonging the season to the end of April in some areas.

Tuition is of high quality in any of the 3 ski schools operating in La Clusaz and you may contact them directly using the following links.

Sno Academie is a small friendly ski school with small classes.

ESF is the biggest of the ski schools. Beware large classes in high season.

Aravis Challenge specialises in individual tuition. From on piste to heliskiing.

Ski and board hire is reasonably priced at about 110 euros per week for standard skis and boots for adults. Much less for children. Boarders pay a little more. We recommend La Piste Blanche and can arrange your ski hire if you are staying with us.

You can save time by booking your ski passes over the internet on www.skipasslaclusaz.com . When the system asks where you would like to collect your pass(es), You can choose either the Caisse Cental, which is in the centre of the village, or Combe des Juments, which is 600m from the chalet.

Ski Hire

We recommend La Piste Blanche because we think François' equipment is very good, you can park next to the shop (this can be very handy), and not least, he is a friend.

You can leave your skis there each evening if you wish to do a bit of après ski. He also sells essential equipment, but not many clothes.

We will be happy to pre-book your gear for you. Just follow the link below and send us a request. It is a particularly good idea to book your skis etc before you come out, particularly in school holidays, and the whole of february.

Please click here to see a how to get to the shop and to request pre-booking of hire equipment. .

Other activities

Winter, of course, is not just about skiing. For non skiers, or those who would like to try something different, there are a number of possibilities. Quad biking in the snow is possible, and paragliding on skis is an exiting alternative. Snowshoes can be hired locally, and there are numerous trails available. There are also buses to the beautiful town of Annecy and elsewhere, for those who wish to explore the region.
