La
Clusaz is well known as a summer activity resort, and it has almost
every activity you care to mention, from archery to white water
rafting. In all there are around forty things to do, in the
village, or nearby.
Water
sports are catered for on Lake Annecy, just 30 mins away by car.
Here you can swim, sail, dive, or even wake board, just to mention
a few. There are a number of beaches dotted along the 40 km shore
line.
Mountain
bike fans will love La Clusaz. World cup races have been held here,
and there are numerous trails winding through the mountains. Four
lifts which can carry bikes up the hills are open from the end of
June to the beginning of September.
Ther are many walks in the area, taking you on trips around the
surrounding mountains. You will certainly take in some wonderful
views and often you will see, Ibex, Marmots and Chamois. You can
buy guide books in the village or online before you come.
Most
of the activities in La Clusaz and the nearby villages of Le Grand
Bornand and St. Jean de Sixt can be paid for using the Aravis
Loisir Pass. These cost 50, 100 or 200 euros, plus a small
returnable deposit. These act as a debit card and give up to 30%
discount on activities. Any remaining credits are refunded at the
end of your holiday.

For those less activity minded there are a host of things to
do.
A must are visits to local sites in the area, including the local
prefecture of Annecy which is extremely popular with its
magnificent old town cris-crossed by canals.
About an hours drive is the medieval village of Yvoire. Situated on
Lac Leman, this site can be combined with a visit to the lovely
lakeside resort of Evian and the Chateau de
Ripaille.
Just on the other side of Annecy is the spectacular Gorge de Fier,
where the snow melting into the river Fier has carved a deep
passage into the limestone rocks.You can take an elevated walkway
through the gorge and see the marks indicating the waters height
over the years. There is also an excellent nature trail.
A
trip to Chamonix is provides an excellent day out, with a trip up
to the Aguille de Midi at over 3000 metres and views of Mont Blanc.
Alternatively you can take the rack and ponion train to Montenvers
and look over the largest glacier in europe and descend to the ice
cave with its ice sculptures.
On the way back you can visit the village of Assy and the churck of
Notre Dame de Toute Grace. This church contains works by renowned
artist, such as Marc Chalgall, Fernand Leger, and Jean Lurcat among
others.
The medieval
fortress of Conflans, the ancient capital of the Duchy of the Savoy
is a spectacular one hours drive from La Clusaz. It has an
excellent museum on the history of this region which historically
straddled Frace, Italy and Switzerland.
